Support for Anxious / Highly Sensitive Teen Girls (and Children 6+)

Face-to-face counselling near Ludlow, Craven Arms and Church Stretton

When your child is struggling, it can be hard to know how to help and distressing to see them suffer. I'm able to help and I prioritise appointments for any young people wishing to be seen quickly. I currently have space online or in person.

When to consider support

It may be worth seeking help (or even early help) if your children is struggling with:

  • Anxiety, worry or overthinking, fears of phobias that is impacting on their life

  • Low confidence or withdrawal from social situations

  • Strong emotions or shutdown leading to exhaustion

  • Friendship or school difficulties or school phobia

  • Sleep struggles or poor focus

  • Sensitivity and feeling things so deeply it leads to overwhelm

How I help

I offer a calm, welcoming space where children and teenagers and young people can talk, make sense of what they’re feeling, and begin to feel more settled and confident.

I work with children from age 6, with a particular focus on teen girls (13–18) experiencing high sensitivity, anxiety, phobias, emotional overwhelm and/or low confidence.

I bring over 30 years’ experience working with children and families, alongside counselling training and a Master’s degree in additional needs. Probably most importantly, I am also a mother of two young women! I have additional training in mother–daughter relationships and a wider specialism in supporting women and interest in supporting neuro-spicy clients and those who feel 'they don't fit in' why ever that might be.

For many young people — especially those who are sensitive or anxious — feeling safe is everything. My calm, friendly little cava-poo dogs are often a big part of helping children relax and feel at ease in sessions. They really help to break the ice and put young people at ease.

Sessions are always tailored to your child — through conversation, creative approaches where helpful, and simple tools to manage emotions.

Over time, your daughter can become calmer, cope better with strong feelings like anxiety, and feel more confident being themselves.

I also offer gentle guidance to parents, so you feel clearer about how to support your child at home. Where needed, I can help ease tension in mother–daughter relationships, supporting better understanding on both sides.  All sessions are always confidential to the young person, unless there are safeguarding concerns or consent to share with you from them.

One teenage girl I worked with arrived and described feeling like a “weirdo” from others in her circle. She held herself back socially and 'shrank' herself to fit their ideas of who she should be. She had a history of harming and depression. After around 8 sessions, she felt more comfortable being herself, less anxious around others, and more confident in everyday situations. She was sleeping better, joined a new social activity in her community and had strategies to manage some harming behaviours with no compulsion to harm herself but instead to 'live it' and 'enjoy my own life'.

With the anxiety work I do, I've helped numerous young people get back to school, cope with phobias and manage high sensitivity.
