Children’s & Young People’s Counselling in Malvern

A safe, supportive space for children to make sense of what they’re feeling

I offer face-to-face counselling for children and young people, supporting them through anxiety, grief, change and emotional overwhelm.

With over 30 years’ experience working with children and families, alongside my counselling training, I understand how deeply life events can affect children — often in ways they can’t yet explain. I am currently accepting new child and adolescent clients.

Sessions are £65 (50 minutes).

When children may benefit from counselling

Children experience loss, fear, change and pressure just as adults do — but often without the language or emotional tools to manage it.

Counselling can help when a child is struggling with:

  • grief, bereavement or significant change

  • anxiety, worries, fears or phobias

  • bullying or friendship difficulties

  • low confidence or emotional overwhelm

  • behavioural changes linked to distress

  • school-related anxiety or withdrawal

Left unsupported, these experiences can affect a child’s confidence, learning and emotional wellbeing over time. Early, gentle support can make a real difference.

How counselling can help your child

Working with me, your child can:

  • feel heard, understood and emotionally safer

  • make sense of confusing or upsetting feelings

  • develop confidence and resilience

  • learn ways to calm anxiety and big emotions

  • improve communication and relationships

Progress happens at your child’s pace, in ways that feel natural and non-threatening.

How I work with children

I create a warm, calm and child-friendly space where children feel safe enough to express themselves.

Sessions may include:

  • creative activities such as drawing, storytelling, puppets or play

  • talking therapy adapted to the child’s age and development

  • gentle emotional regulation tools (e.g. breathing, mindfulness, EFT for children)

  • support with fears or phobias using age-appropriate CBT-informed approaches

  • helping children find words for their experiences and questions

Some children need more creativity; others want to talk. I adapt to each child rather than expecting them to fit a method.

Experience you can trust

Before training as a counsellor, I spent three decades working closely with children and young people, including those with emotional difficulties, additional needs, and those at risk of exclusion.  I hold a Master’s degree in working with children with additional needs, which supports my work with neurodivergent children and young people. I work collaboratively with families and, where appropriate and with consent, can support parents in understanding how best to help their child. I have a full DBS police check.

Practical and safeguarding information

  • I work face-to-face only with children under 14 years of age

  • A parent or guardian must remain on site during sessions for those under 16 years of age

  • Parents may wait nearby or join sessions if preferred

  • Sessions are always conducted with safety, consent and clarity

And yes — children often love my two gentle, well-loved dogs, who may join sessions only if welcomed and agreed by you and your child.
